Message from SNIPEF President, George Baxter

May 24, 2023

I am deeply honoured to have been elected the 99th President of SNIPEF. As President, I hope to meet as many members as possible over the coming year to discuss and find ways to help advance our Federation and the plumbing industry. As I look ahead to the coming year and beyond, I see several key priorities for SNIPEF and the plumbing industry.

First and foremost, we must continue to promote the highest standards of professionalism and excellence. This means ensuring our members have access to the latest training and skills development opportunities and promoting best practices and ethical behaviour in all aspects of our work.

To achieve this goal, we must work closely with the government, industry organisations, and other stakeholders to develop policies and programs that support the growth and development of the plumbing profession. This includes advocating for increased funding for apprenticeships and training programs and adopting new technologies and practices to help our members' businesses grow.

Another critical area is greater diversity and inclusion in the profession. As an organisation, we are committed to ensuring that our members represent the full diversity of our communities and that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed in this profession.

To achieve this goal, we must work to break down the barriers preventing underrepresented groups from entering the plumbing profession. This means developing new outreach and recruitment strategies and supporting and mentoring people from underrepresented groups.

In addition to promoting diversity and inclusion, I believe SNIPEF must also focus on fostering innovation and sustainability in the plumbing profession. As we all know, the world is facing significant environmental challenges, and the plumbing profession has a vital role in addressing these challenges.

To this end, we must promote the adoption of new technologies and practices that can help us reduce our environmental impact and promote greater sustainability in our work.

Finally, SNIPEF must also focus on promoting the value and importance of the plumbing profession to the broader community. As we all know, plumbing is an essential service that is critical in maintaining public health and safety and promoting economic growth and development.

We must promote greater public awareness of our essential work to ensure that the plumbing profession receives the recognition and respect it deserves. This means developing new marketing and communications strategies and working with industry organisations and other stakeholders to promote greater understanding and appreciation of our profession.

SNIPEF and its members have a vital role in shaping the future of the plumbing profession in Scotland and Northern Ireland. By promoting the highest standards of professionalism and excellence, diversity and inclusion, innovation and sustainability, and promoting the value and importance of our profession to the broader community, we can help ensure that the plumbing profession remains strong and vibrant for generations to come.

I look forward to working with all of you over the coming year to advance the interests of the Federation and the plumbing profession as a whole.

George Baxter
